Very seroius: Pulmonary fibrosis is a dangerous condition were through an insult the lung creates fibritic/ scar tissue & the function decreases proportionally different forms occurs: idiopathic pulm fibrosis is the worst becausse no fda approved therapy exist & can be progressive in most patients.There is a hereditable component in some. Others due smoking, environmental fumes, etc. Secondary to rheumatologic.

Very serious: He should be seen by a pulmonologist. Lung fibrosis can progress to the point of him needing a lung transplant. Identifying the cause is important and then trying to stop the progression or even regress the damage.

Depends: Depends on how bad his pulmonary function is and what caused the pulmonary fibrosis. Most types of pulmonary fibrosis are not really treatable but some are. Make sure he sees a good pulmonologist and has all options explained to him.
