Possibilities...: Pulmonary fibrosis is due to scarring in the lungs. There is no specific therapy for the fibrosis itself but the cough may be related to bronchospasm. This can be treated with bronchodilator and steroid inhalers which could improve the cough and the related shortness of breath. He should see his doctor for diagnosis and treatment. If he smokes, he needs to quit! good luck!
