Not likely but...: If you have an underlying medical problem such as diabetes or peripheral vascular disease, and if the infection spreads into the bloodstream and you are immunocompromised, death can (rarely) treat it. Taking it seriously, getting the medical and/or surgical care needed reduces the likelihood of this way down.
