How long should i wait before going back to work after an operation involving general anesthetic?

Depends: Your work clearance will actually depend on the nature of your surgery rather than the fact it was done under general anesthesia. The recovery from general anesthesia is short (1-2 days at maximum), while the extent of your surgery will mandate the decision for clearance.

At least 24 hours: How long you would need to wait before going back to work would depend more on the surgery. Today's general anesthetic meds wear off very quickly. If you had a minor procedure and don't need any narcotic pain meds afterward, you might be able to work as early as the next day. But if you need a lot of medicine for pain, or your surgery limits your activity, follow your doctor's orders about work.
