Excessive Fear: The key is an "excessive" fear of having an illness. To illustrate, when i was starting my training in psychiatry i worked with a young man who could not be convinced that he didn't have hiv. He had had every known test and they were all negative, but he would then point out that no test is 100% certain. I calculated his odds of having HIV were roughly the same as being struck by a meteor.

Do you often fear: you have illnesses that you don't have? Hypochondria is now called health anxiety disorder. It occurs when a person becomes obsessed with the idea that they have serious medical problems /condition (when there is no diagnosed condition).
