Yes: Some kinds of cancer are detected through examination of the blood count-- a peripheral blood smear, more specifically. This allows the pathologist to count and determine if the percentages of the various blood cells is within the normal range, or if one type of blood cell predominates. This can be the initial step in diagnosing many types leukemia and lymphoma. A bone marrow biopsy helps too.
