Dental abcess: If the abcess is from a tooth, you have two choices; 1) you can perform a root canal on yourself or, 2) you can pull the offending tooth i do not recommend either option ;-).

Not likely: While dental abcesses can drain and be non painful, they will not go away from treatment other than removing the offensive tooth or causative agent. If the nerve of a tooth is infected, performing a root canal to remove it usually helps heal an abcess. If a tooth is infected (abcessed) and nonrestorable, then removal will help heal the area. Self cures for dental abcesses are not recommended, imo.

Can't do it!: A dental abscess is the result of bacteria (a cavity) getting deep enough that the bacteria is in the nerve of the tooth. At this point, to eliminate the bacteria and dental abscess, you must have a root canal procedure on the tooth or have the tooth extracted. Both require a dentist. Some patients may "pop" the abscess or it may do this on its own, but this is temporary and it will come back.
