A member asked:

Why does hepatic necrosis occurs when hepatic artery is ligated accidentally during surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

May or may not: The liver gets some of its bood flow from the hepatic artery, but majority flow from the portal vein. Ligating the artery can cause liver damage that may recover depending on the siuatuon, which artery branches are involved & multiple patient factors.
