Not if it was fixed: Each surgical case presents unique challenges. Structures near disease are often distorted, twisted pulled into the disease process by swelling, inflammation, infection or tumor. So the kind of thing you describe is not terribly uncommon. It could be a big deal---IF the surgeon didn't recognize it & take appropriate steps. Sounds like solidly good care in this case.
