How should i get orthodontic coverage?

Varies: Employer sponsored benefit plans may include orthodontic coverage, many times to age 19 (or 25 with new extension) and occasionally for adults. However, most ortho offices have great financing plans to allow payments, including interest free. It is usually not cost effective to "buy" an ortho plan if it is not included in your employer's benefit package.

Ask the orthodontist: Individual coverage for orthodontia is not readily available and usually only covers a portion, usually less than half, of the treatment. Most orthodontists make payment arrangements to make this service affordable. If individual insurance coverage is available it many times requires a patient to go to a particular office or clinic and this should be carefully evaluated prior to pirchasing.

Through employment: Most large companies will provide dental insurance that cover some of the orthodontic treatment. It is very difficult for individuals to have orthodontic coverage on dental plans. Often patients finance the treatment or pay for the service. Good luck.

Benefits rep: Check with your employer's benefits representative to see if dental coverage is an option and if orthodontics is included. Private orthodontic coverage is not common.

Yes: If you plan on getting braces, no if you are not.

Group coverage: Individual orthodontic coverage is usually not offered as it is not cost effective. Orthodontic coverage is usually only offered in large group policies. Ask your orthodontist if there are individual plans being offered in your area. Ask your hr office about group coverage. Remember that orthodontists have many creative financing options to help you.
