Is it possible to get the hpv virus even if you are not sexually active?

Not likely, but...: The hpv virus is very easily transmitted from person to person. Fingers, mouths, sharing sex toys without washing in between are all thought to be ways of transmitting hpv.

Yes and no: Yes for the HPV types that cause common warts of the hands, feet, etc, especially in kids and sometimes in adults. However, genital, anal, or oral HPV in adults is always an STD -- it requires direct genital contact. The apparent exceptions result from HPV showing up several years after catching it, in people not currently sexually active; or from asymptomatic partners not known to be infected.
