I went to take a ca-125 blood test and the doctors office said it was normal that i had a 8.6, is that actually normal?

Ca 125: Yes. That is in the range considered normal.

CA 125 - Why check?: 8.6 sounds like a normal value for the cancer antigen 125 (ca125) laboratory test. However, why did you want to get it? It is not a screening test for ovarian cancer. It is an adjunctive test for measuring tumor response (ie, a tumor marker) for patients with known ovarian cancer. It isn't perfect even when we know someone has ovarian cancer.

Not a screening test: Yes it is a normal level. However, ca 125 is a not a sceening test. So, if you dont have an ovarian cancer, i dont think you need to have the ca 125 to be tested. It is mainly used for patients with ovarian cancer to see the response to therapy. Unfortunately there is no good and reliable test or modality( not a cancer marker, not a sonogram, not a ct scan) that we have to screen for ovarian can.

Yes: For most labs the normal range for a ca-125 is anything less than 30.
