Relax: Afib can cause blood clots to the brain but your doctor has started him on a blood thinner to help prevent this. He may also be at risk for congestive heart failure, hypertension and other medical problems. A doctor is screening and treating him for these possibilities. Getting a cardiologist to evaluate him will also benefit him and you should go with him to the visit and for the tests.

Discuss with MD: If anxious discussing concerns with your doctor can help. In general the rx of atrial fibrillation consists of 3 things 1) controlling the heart rate so its not too fast, 2) a medicine like xarelto, to protect against blood clots that might form get to the brain causing stroke. 3) in some not all getting a normal rhythm. For those not in afib all the time, the only issue may be clot prevention.
