Get checked: The "sinks in" look is called pitting edema. There is some kind of inflammation occurring but the red/hot is usually an indication of something acute - possibly an infection. Get checked by a podiatrist. Possible conditions include inflammation/arthritis, infection/cellulitis (even without a bite mark), or a metabolic condition called gout. Get checked.
