Treatment verses pre: -steroids are preventative, therefore they are not the drug of choice during an acute wheezing episode. Steroids do enhance energy and therefore can cause insomnia. Talk to your caregiver about rescue inhalers, for relieving acute wheezing episodes.

Anti-inflammatory: Acute asthma is caused by inflammation and steroids are the most powerful anti-inflammatory agents available. They will calm down the airways and relieve symptoms of asthma. In high doses they can definitely cause insomnia.
