Chronic condition: Asthma by a definition is a chronic reversible airway disease. In some cases it can be a genetic predisposition, heartburn related asthma, but in majority of cases it is triggered by allergens, such as trees, dust, pollen, mold, strong odors, grasses, feathers, etc. Asthma needs to be properly controlled by medications and avoidance of triggers. If allergens are identified then immunotherapy helps.

No/yes: True asthma is a lifelong condition that can often be controlled well enough that it is never much of a problem. It can be so mild, people don't even know they have it or so bad they take several meds daily to prevent attacks. There are several available meds but each must be picked by your doc for your individual needs.
