Could be a few thins: Infection around the joint area, TMJ issue, swollen lymph node or salivary gland/parotid gland issue. Have your md take a look.

Could be jaw: If you have a lump like you are talking about it could be the head of the condyle of your lower jawbone. It could have become dislocated and is now poking out. Go see a dentist or oral surgeon to evaluate it. They may take an x-ray to see what is going on and it may just require putting your jaw back in its proper place.
