Unlikely: There is evidence that hsv can be transmitted to a partner even when you don't have active blisters, but it's unusual. You should consider getting a prescription for Valtrex (valacyclovir) or Famvir to decrease the chances of transmission.

POSSIBLY: The risk of infection to a partner can be high during an outbreak, but some suggest that 95% of infected people will shed the hsv virus-even between outbreaks, while others suggest the risk is low. A cold sore is actively shedding the virus--highly contagious. Soapbox: practice safe sex, use a condom/dam and inform your partner(s). It’s their life you may affect and infect.
