Sometimes: Lupus patients with their disease in remission or well controlled can work, but lupus patients with active disease will be having many symptoms that make it too difficult to work. (lupus is not a contagious disease.) that means a person will miss a lot of work during flare-ups, which can occur unpredictably. He should choose a career that is not affected by taking medical leave from time to time.

Yes: This is difficult to answer in 1 paragraph since lupus is so complicatied. Since i dont know all your symptoms or physical findings we have many different medications for lupus which can control the diease. Obviously, there are no cures. There are also many lupus studies going on looking at different therapies for the disease. Search your area. You must keep a positive attitude even on bad days.
