Try a diff approach : Instead of putting any drugs in your body, let's look at things first. Do you have a lot or some stress in your life? Are you a worrier? Anything can cause you to grind. Do you grind every nite or only occasionally? Do you have sinus troubles? Any of these could make a person grind. I suggest a bite guard to help and not a lifetime of drugs, that have too many other side effects.

No: Antidepressants, muscle relaxants, all have been tried without success. I noticed a baby on the side beside your question, if it is a child, just tolerate it till they get beyond their teens but after that a bite appliance can and should be considered. Talk to your dentist.

Muscle Relaxants Can: Teeth grinding (or bruxism) can cause lost of different problems, including facial pain. Many more people actually clench their teeth than actually grind them. In some cases muscle relaxants can decrease this habit. More effective than medication is having the right type of guard made to relax muscles and take pressure off of the teeth. Very few dentists make the right type. Find a TMJ dentist.

Determine cause: Need to try and treat the cause, not the symptoms. Meds may relax the muscles or relax you, but there are other potential triggers. Stress is a big one, though, and should not be discounted

Not proven: Antidepressants not been proven to help with grinding. Much more successful Botox injections. See a TMJ expert. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
