Fractures: Osteoporosis can lead to fractures, especially of the spine or hip. Vertebral fractures lead to pain, loss of height, and decrease in mobility. Hip fractures may require surgery and hospitalization that can lead to complications like pulmonary embolism, loss of independent living, and even death.
