What is the best way to deal with a common cold in elderly?

Conservatively: Management of a simple cold is best managed with gentle hydration, humidification of the air and at times otc cold remedies. Nasal saline for congestion is safe, as is tylenol (acetaminophen) for aches and pains. Guaifenesin is otc and safe and acts to relieve chest congestion. If symptoms persist, person gets short of breath, productive cough or lethargic, these are signs that a doctor should evaluate.
