Primes and apples: And oatmeal work pretty well. Give it a try. Be sure he is drinking enough fluids throughout the day

Hydrate bowels: Hydration! We think we drink fluid that should be equivalent to the amount of water we need in a day, but it isn't! If the gentleman in question were to replace half of what he drinks other than water with water he would likely see a change in his bowel habits. Depending on his cardiac function, he should drink about half of his ideal bodyweight in ounces daily. Talk to his doc about this 1st!
