Many causes: There are many causes in the elderly. The most important and potentially-treatable are medication related. Some causes of dementia may also result in hallucinations. See your neurologist to get a thorough evaluation to identify the precise cause.

Variable: A rather common cause of auditory hallucinations is loss of hearing, and likewise loss of vision can do this also. Pretty florrid visions accompany parkinsonian or lewy body dementia. Numerous medications cause anti-cholinergic issues, and promote seizures. Alcohol and vitamin issues may present in this fashion. Bottom line, get evaluation, and treat this.
