Depends: Typically pain medicine, antibiotic for prophylaxis against infection and a low dose steroid to minimize swelling. Occasionally you may be given supplements like arnica montana to diminish bruising.

Facelift: This depends on the patient as well as the surgeon. Often, an antibiotic is prescribed to prevent infections. Also, a mild corticosteroid is prescribed to limit swelling. Pain is usually very mild and brief, and a mild pain medication may be used for the first few days.

Depends on Doc: This will depend on your surgeon's preferences as well as the extent of the procedure. For more extensive procedures, it is common that an analgesic will be prescribed. Antibiotics are frequently used but not recommended by all. On occasion, anxiolytics may be prescribed such as valium, occasionally anti-nausea meds will be provided, lastly stool softeners may be needed for those with constipation.

Antibiotics: I typically prescribe a short course of oral antibiotics and a handful of narcotic pain pills. Facelift surgery is not a painful procedure and few patients require a significant amount of pain medication. Most surgeons will also recommend an antibiotic ointment to the facelift incisions for the first 5-7 days following surgery. I hope this information is helpful. Stephen weber, M.D. Lone tree, co.
