It't the high mood: Mania, or a manic episode is the hallmark of bipolar d/o. A true manic episode needs to last at least one week. During mania, the person often doesn't sleep and feels like they don't require sleep. They speak rapidly with rapid, racing thoughts known as flight of ideas. The person may engage in reckless behaviors and become disinhibited. This can become out of control as loss of reality occurs.
