Why vomiting?: R u taking a painkiller or antibiotics you are allergic to? Why are you vomiting? Either you have to check your meds and call your dentist to make the change or maybe you are swallowing blood or have the gauze in your mouth pushed too far back in your throat that is making you gag and vomit. Please call your dentist because it is not normal to vomit after extractions.

Less pain medication: Some sedative anesthetics or more commonly, the oral pain killers you take after surgery can make you very nauseous. If you are taking pain killers, try this: cut them in half, take 1/2 to start, then wait for 30-45 minutes. If necessary, then take the other half. When you take these medications, take them 20 minutes after eating or with a full glass of water.

Options: Pain medication on an empty stomach can result in nausea an vomitting for many patients, so it is important to have something in your stomach prior to taking any pain medication. One simple home remedy that works for some patients is to sniff some isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol on a gauze sponge. If the nausea and vomitting persists, your doc may need to prescribe something for you.

Tell oral surgeon: If you are prone to postop vomiting, tell ora surgeon. He can modify anesthesia technique. Postop, take narcotic pain meds with food. Make sure you are evaluated and treated by an oral surgeon who can manage these problems best.
