How long should swelling last for with a sprained ankle?

Typically 6-8 weeks: If it has been longer than that you may have had a more severe sprain which might take up to 6 months to fully recover. Work on getting your range of motion back, massage the area and give it time.

Swelling: With a sprained ankle you can have swelling up to two months. You can help reduce the swelling with an ace bandage.

Depends: Swelling is usually the last symptom to go away after the injury. The severity of the sprain, whether the ligaments are partially or completely torn has a major bearing on the healing rate. Ice and compression are quite helpful and physical therapy modalities can hasten healing.
