Neonatology: A neonatologist is a physician, and must graduate from a 4 year medical school. Then 3 more years of pediatric residency is required. Then, 3 more years for a fellowship in neonatology. Most neonatologists are board certified in pediatrics also. Many years: You have to go to college, take pre-med courses then do 4 years of medical school, then 3 years of pediatrics and 3 years of neonatalology. To be a neonatal nurse you go to college/ nursing school and usually a few years working to be senior enough to be considered to be placed in the neonatal unit. Depends on the hospital and state where you plan to work.
