My wife has been prescribed nitrofurantoin 100mg twice daily for 1 week for uti with ecoli. she is now 35 weeks pregnant. is it safe to take this dru?

Probably: Nitrofurantoin use may be contraindicated in pregnant patients in whom labor is imminent. Nitrofurantoin is commonly used to treat urinary tract infections in pregnancy. Animal
studies have not demonstrated a problem with fetal exposure to this antibiotic. The fda lists this drug as probably safe for pregnant women.
