See below.: Generally abcesses in this area > 2 cm are treated with incision and drainage. If < 2 cm could consider antibiotics if not progressing but often moist heat works just fine within a week. If not then incision. Could seek second opinion. There may be a good reason your doc is avoiding drainage.
