Addiction/tolerance: Some sleeping pills are controlled substances; they have addictive potential. Examples include: ambien, lunesta, (eszopiclone) & restoril. That being said, they are schedule IV with lower potential for this than other medications the more common issue with sleeping pills is developing physiological tolerance. Frequent use of the medication causes your body to 'get used to' the medication & it loses efficacy.
