Sometimes: There are many reasons for scoliosis. It is unknown whether muscle imbalance is part of the reason for scoliosis with most adolescents. Muscle imbalance can however cause scoliosis in cases involving cerebral palsy, myelomeningocele, tumors, etc. Scoliois can also be due to arthritis and idiopathic (meaning we are unsure of the exact cause).
