Spondylolysis: Surgery is not necessary unless symptoms cannot be controlled nonsurgically. This is a common diagnosis affecting as many as 6% of the asymptomatic population. Pt, nsaid's, and injections often help, maybe bracing for symptoms and not to heal the fractures. Failing this, fusion surgery is quite reasonable and successful.
