Depends: Leukoplakia simply means a white patch. It has to be biopsied to make a definitive diagnosis and to know what you are dealing with.

YES: Yes you can get sick, leukoplakia is already an abnormal condition, you can get cancer ( very sick ) if you don't diagnose it properly and avoid some irritants such as tobacco and alcohol. You need to see an oral surgeon and follow up very closely and try to reduce the chances of it getting malignant.
