Must come out: Sorry you have a gist. Standard is to resect that portion of the stomach. Open or laparoscopic surgery is fine. You should still be able to eat without a problem. Good luck, and i'm sure everything will work out. You should be able to return to all normal activities after the recovery period.

Options: Open or laparoscopic surgery may be options for surgical excision of a stomach gist lesion. This depends on the size and location of the lesion or other organs affected. Partial gastrectomy means that only a part of the stomach is removed, enough to get clear margins around the tumor. Once healed you can return back to eating normal and you will not know that a portion of the stomach was removed.
