Secondary Symptoms: Children can have prolonged low-grade fever with self-limited viral illnesses like uri. More concerned if fever max increasing after day 4, new symptoms develop (ear pain, dysuria) or child is feeling worse after day 4. With viral dx, fever usually highest dy1-3 and trends down, highest late at night and early in morning. With increasing fever/new symptoms, dr evaluates for secondary sources.
