9yr old has harsh bad cough for over 2 weeks with little congestion no fever feeling fine. does this require antibiotic? can't seem to rid cough

Hard to say: Antibiotics are useless in treating cough unless there is a bacterial infection causing it. Some kids with simple viral bronchitis will cough hard for up to a month. Work with the kids doc to see what is going on. Don't assume that antibiotics are needed, although they could be. Sometimes they develop a sinus infection that triggers persistent cough after the initial issue has passed.

He may be wheezing : Has he done this before? Persistent cough he is not able to shake for weeks? Is there a family history of Asthma? Does he seem to cough when he is playing or running around? See your Pediatrician, he may be wheezing and needs to be treated
