PSA: If a 90 yo has increasing psa, this could be indicative of prostate cancer. Depending on his current functional status, he should see a urologist for a work up and to formulate a plan. Psa, prostate-specific antigen, is an enzyme made by the prostate, and it may be elevated from inflammation of the prostate, enlargement of the prostate (bph), or cancer. Psa, itself, does not pose any risk.

By not checking it!: There is likely more harm than good for the average 90 year-old (if there is such a thing!) man in checking his psa. A psa level under 10 at age 91 is not necessarily concerning. Most men at age 91 harbor some prostate cancer though very few will die from it. Ignorance can be bliss in this situation!
