Helpful New Med: Vascepa is a new fda approved omega-3 fatty acid (fish oil) indicated for use with diet to reduce triglyceride (tg) levels over 500. It is different from other omega-3 therapy (dha+epa) in that vascepa is 98% pure epa. Dha+epa therapy decreases tg, but frequently raises ldl-c and does not lower LDL particle number. Epa lowers tg, lowers LDL particle number and does not raise ldl-c.
