A member asked:

My son is 4 years old and he has been taking hydroxyzine 10mg/5ml syrup for a few years. is there harm in taking it for this long?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

None known: Hydroxyzine has been in use for more than 60 years. It has an excellent profile for safety in long-term use. It can cause sedation and prolonged reaction time but these side-effects resolve once you stop the medication. For the itching of chronic eczema a little sedation is considered an added benefit.
