Hearing loss causes:: Hearing loss causes include: single loud noises (such as an explosion), prolonged loud noise (such as loud music in earphones), head injuries (so always wear a helmet when riding or skating, etc...), Lasix (furosemide) or other "loop diuretics", Cisplatin / Carboplatin or other chemotherapy drugs, large doses of Aspirin or other salicylate drugs, etc...

Otosclerosis: Fortunately, not really much to avoid. Of course you should make sure your prosthesis is MRI compatible in case you have to have one.
