Are there any easy-to-notice behavioral warning-signs that a 5 year-old boy is cognitively delayed? any recommendations for home-tests usable to see?

Boys are bad: There is no definite test, nor should there be. Boys tend to be slower in language and more aggressive in behavior than girls. They should be treated as normal and appropriate and taught to behave as normal and appropriate. Once in school, learning problems can be identified and dealt with appropriately.

Language: Language is the developmental domain that correlates most with cognition- not speech, (articulation of words, ) but receptive ( what he understands) & expressive ( his ability to verbalize ideas) language. Yourschool district's child find will do a free evaluation of all developmental domains + social/adaptive skills. Screens are on childdevelopmentinfo.Com & dbpeds.Org., but also call child find.
