A member asked:

Had a lot of novocaine. could that lead to swollen gums?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It Can: A local anesthetic can produce altered sensation of several structures of the mouth and face. The swelling of the gums can be due to an altered sensation rather than a physical swelling. In some instances, injection of a local anesthetic into the tissues adjacent to or above or below the root of the tooth will produce some physical swelling of the tissues, which resolves.
