It might. : Leukoplakia is usually non-cancerous, but studies show that 5-25% of the time leukoplakias are premalignant. Meaning if not treated they could turn cancerous. Therefore a biopsy is needed.

Rarely: Leukoplakia is usually harmless. Lesions often clear up in a few weeks or months after the source of irritation is removed. Rarely, it may become cancer.
