Combination : The pendex is a combination appliance consisting of a specially designed wire to make space in the upper arch by pushing the molars back and an orthopedic device to widen the upper arch. It is fixed in place and typically serves to correct both crowding and, in some cases, flaring of the front teeth.

An upper molar mover: A pentax appliance is bonded or cemented to the upper tooth with a special wire attached to the upper molars to move them posteriorly. This movement allows the orthodontist to correct the bite in the back and also develop space to help correct crowding if necessary.

Type of pendulum: Pendulum appliances are special wire and acrylic appliances that use the side teeth and the hard palate as anchorage to move molars rearward. They work extremely well (i have placed at least 1000). Added to this is an expansion screw that widens the upper jaw simultaneously, hence name= pendex.

Pendex: It is an appliance that consists of two movements, expansion (widening) and distalization (moving back teeth further back). It is generally an appliance that is custom made to your mouth and glued onto your back/side teeth. It generally remains in the mouth for a period of about 6 months. It helps widen the upper jaw both skeletally and dentally.

It is a complex appliance requiring fitness to adjust properly. It's effective for growing tweets/teens, not non-growing adults. Ask your fully qualified Orthodontic Specialist for more information.
