Depends on what type: Each type of jaw surgery is termed differently. If the lower jaw is involved, it is either a mandibular set back (moved backward) or a mandibular advancement (moved forward). Both may be types of 'sagital split' types of surgery. If the upper jaw is involved, it can be a two or three piece 'la forte' proceedure whether moved forward, backward, or even intruded.
