Since maoi and cigarettes can block mao and raise dopamine levels, can maoi be used to help a smoker quit smoking? if not, why not? if so which maoi?

No evidence: Dopamine is increased by smoking however although in theory a good question not used options are nicotine replacements varencline nortriptine bupropion etc the risk of side effects is not worth the risk since it is not a first line treatment.

MAOI: MAOI's require strict dietary restrictions and can have very serious side effects. There are many smoking cessation options available. MAOI's should not be used for this purpose.
