Trapped bacteria: Ear infections can be outer ear infections (in ear canal) or middle ear (behind ear drum). Outer ear infections can be bacteria or fungus trapped on the skin in the ear canal causing a local skin infection. Middle ear infections are virus/bacteria trapped typically from a nasal cold/infection in the warm sequestered space behind the ear drum. Either should be seen by an md/specialist.
