Possibly Normal: It is normal for a broken ankle to be painful and have some swelling in that time frame. I would advise, however, that it is imperative that you see your orthopedist asap for an evaluation since it is possible that the fracture shifted from having the cast removed.

Fractured ankle: Not sure of the exact fracture. 4 weeks is the earliest that i would expect improvement. Not a good idea to take off cast without followup. If continued problems would definately go back to ortho doc.
